April 26-30, 2010

Hi everyone! This week has been very busy with the end-of-the-year tests for our kindergarten students. They have done a great job this week and have really worked hard on their tests. I've added the picture and write-up of our Banner article about planting our apple tree on Earth Day. The students love watering and taking care of our tree! Only two week sleft to kindergarten graduation. The year has been grreat and I've learned a lot from my peers and students. A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Elliott, who has been a great supporter and friend during the year. She is a wonderful kindergarten teacher and her help has been greatly appreciated!

This week is review week for the end-of-the-year test. The students are reviewing math materials that include addition and subtraction, time, and ordinal numbers. These are just a few of the math facts they are reviewing. In the ELA test, phonemic awareness is a key element. Comprehension, rhyming, sequence of events in a story, and sight word recognition are also major parts of the test. For grade k, the following link identifies the state comprehensive standards and gle's: http://www.louisianaschools.net/lde/saa/2108.html

Links to each area of the LA State Dept. of Education's Comprehensive Curriculum and GLE's are linked on the main page of the blog.

March 22-26, 2010

This week we are learning about the letter Uu. The students working on the storybook are doing a great job so far drawing pictures to go with the book. Math is winding down. We are covering our last chapter this week from our workbook on the numbers 21-30. The students were hard to trick on directions today. They are very sharp when it comes to following directions!

Field Trip

The field trip was a great success. The students had a great time at the Idea Place and planetarium. Cooktown Park was fun and the kids had a blast. They were tired and slept all the way back to school. Thanks to LaTech and the staff of the Idea Place!
